Full Of Glee

So today my stake had stake conference and it was awesome. We had some very amazing and inspiring people talk. After church I came home and took a nap because I started a movie really incredibly late last night which resluted in not very much sleep. After my nap my awesome room mates made delicious pulled pork sandwiches for us and our FHE brothers and we sat around and talked for quite some time. I really do love those boys. They are all so awesome to us (maybe because we feed them every sunday) But really, they are amazing and I don't think they realize how much we love them.

My music today comes from Darren Criss. He has recently been added to the cast of Glee and although he plays a gay singer in the show I feel like in real life he is amazing. His voice is awesome but he makes funny faces when he sings (normal for most singers) which makes the performance so muc better. I hope you enjoy this song, "Not Alone."

Have a fabulous Monday!! I know mine will be packed with school and with fun!!

My Muse

I don't really want to post today but I love Muse. Today was good, I went to Sammy's and met up with Kelly and Stewart and Kelly fed me Samoa Shake!! Then we came home and watched Rigoletto. FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME!! Erika didn't understand it though and Mary kind of remembered it. That made for an interesting viewing. Anyway, tonight I went on a double date and that was fun. Repelling was AWESOME!! I will tell more about it tomorrow because I am tired.

It was hard to find my favorite Muse song so this is my favorite today :D

Starlight is the bomb.com I hope you enjoy it!!

The Gold Of The Early Sourdough's Dreams

I have been homesick very recently which is a new thing for me because even though I miss my family, I have been perfectly content to be independent and do my own thing. I still am but I want to go home now more than ever. Only one more month!! So because of my recent mood I decided to post about the Alaska flag song. The Lyrics are as follows:

Eight stars of gold on a field of blue —
Alaska's flag. May it mean to you
The blue of the sea, the evening sky,
The mountain lakes, and the flow'rs nearby;
The gold of the early sourdough's dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams;
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The "Bear," the "Dipper," and, shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
O'er land and sea a beacon bright.
Alaska's flag — to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.

This is what has been said about the Alaska flag song.
"The connection between the song and the flag happened both by design and circumstance. It was the result of the linkage among three individuals: Benny Benson, Marie Drake, and Elinor Dusenbury. They did not directly collaborate, but instead Marie Drake built on the work of Benny Benson, and Elinor Dusenbury built on the work of the other two. Benny Benson inspired the effort, Marie Drake wrote the lyrics, and Elinor Dusenbury composed the song.

Alaska's official flag is based on Benny Benson's design, which was submitted in a Territory-wide contest for schoolchildren sponsored by the American Legion in 1926. At that time Benny was a thirteen-year-old seventh-grader of Russian-Aleut and Swedish descent, studying at the Territorial School at Seward and a resident of the Jesse Lee Mission Home. The Alaska Territorial Legislature officially adopted his design on May 2, 1927. The proclamation praised his winning entry for, "its simplicity, its originality and its symbolism." On the design submission, Benny had written the following words of explanation: “The blue field is for the Alaska sky and the forget-me-not, an Alaska flower. The North Star is for the future of the state of Alaska, the most northerly in the Union. The dipper is for the Great Bear — symbolizing strength.”

This link was a really random children's choir singing the Alaska Flag Song that I found on YouTube, but upon further inspection I realized that it was my brothers elementary choir singing at his 4th grade concert!! Very random but it made me happy to see this video from 4 years ago. My brother is the one in the front row with the gray vest, white shirt, tie and jeans. You get a good look at him at about 1:03. I love Alaska and I hope you enjoy this very youthful version of the Alaska Flag Song.

Brumby is Brown

I have posted things about Brumby in the past and I have loved them since I first heard them but this week my love for them was rekindled when I met a friend that has very similar taste in music as me. That realization instantly brought me to Brumby and their unique sound. I would like to call myself a Brumby Missionary. After looking on Brumby's website, http://www.brumbyband.com/Home.html, I decided that I could not describe them as well as they could. Here is an excerpt from their website.

"Brumby was a friendship long before it was a band. Tyler and Dylan met at ages 5 and 6, when they moved into the same cul-de-sac. Tyler’s cousin Spencer arrived in the cul-de-sac shortly thereafter, and Oliver, another cousin, came to visit. After years of learning about music in various classes, choirs, and private time spent reading music theory books, this Las Vegas based foursome decided to form a collaboration.

For two years, Brumby has been capitalizing on the various talents of its members. Tyler’s knowledge of theory and his ability to put ideas to music plus Oliver’s fervid vocals are a good match for Spencer’s cool and amiable bass lines and Dylan’s energetic percussion patterns. At ages 18 and 19, Brumby has become a rapid success in the community where they live.

As Tyler says, the music of Brumby is brown. Much like a bar of chocolate, it is a rich and dynamic, appetizing experience. A quick listen instantly turns into an obsession, a need to sort out the intricacies of the musicality and passion behind the songs. Their EP, Rosebud, a self-released album, has gained swift popularity from people looking for something scrumptious.

Influenced by the likes of Muse, Radiohead, U2, Sigur Ros, Incubus, and Coldplay, their style can be described as “Brit pop” or simply “rock.” Working to emulate their musical idols, they have toyed with ambiance and the power of visualization to create a sound far more advanced than most musicians their age. A typical garage band, Brumby is not."
This is the link to their music video for the song, "Of Dreams and Death". I love it and the sound in this song is amazing. I used to think that their music was a cross between many different musical sounds but now I realize that their sound belongs to them. It is unique to no one else. I hope you guys enjoy it!!

Some of my best friends and I waiting for the show to begin at the Salt Lake Brumby concert 2010

Jar of Hearts

Today was pretty awesome. I am currently attending Brigham Young University Idaho and because I am attending a church school, the choirs here have the opportunity to sing in General Conference which is a huge honor because all of the officials of the church will be there and our amazing apostles and Prophet get to speak. Needless to say I am very excited. The reason I mention this is because the Conference Choir had the opportunity this afternoon to sing in Devotional. We sang 2 prelude hymns and then a choral version of How Firm A Foundation. I was pretty happy with our performance but the songs and the choir still need a ton of work. I was very grateful that we got to have that experience in order to improve and understand what we need to work on before General Conference on April 2nd.

The picture above is a picture of Christina Perri. It is rare that I will ever post about a female singer, or at least none of my posts thus far have been from females. The fact is that I normally just don't like female singing voices. Call me crazy because I am a female and a singer but that is how I feel. However, her song "Jar of Hearts" I like. I first heard it in the car with my room mates and I heard a certain line she said, "You're gonna catch a cold from the ice inside your soul..." Which I instantly loved. I liked her spunk mostly. The video I attached is kind of weird but also very interesting to think about. I have never been in a serious relationship but I do not want what the girls in the video had. I feel like both people in a relationship need to be giving equally and that is not what the video portrays. Hope you like it!

So the rest of my day after Devo, I had Women's Choir and then DRUM LINE!! I love drum line but I want to be better at rhythm so I find myself practicing very randomly throughout the day and I think it is really helping! We are performing in the RixStix concert a week from today and I am pretty stoked. Because our school doesn't have real sport we have not had the opportunity to really show off what we have been working on this semester. Hopefully we will be performing for some of the inter mural volleyball and basketball games before school is over in April. After drum line I came home to watch Glee which I thought I would give another chance to win me over, IT DID NOT WORK! I am not gonna talk about it but I am angry at the direction it has gone and I probably won't be watching it anymore, however I am a sucker for their music so that will probably still be happening in my life :D

Hope everyone has a great evening and a Happy Hump Day tomorrow!

Childhood

So I didn't really do much today but I had a great time tonight at my Family Home Evening. We combined a few groups and went to the bishops house for an activity and snack. It was a blast getting to know some other people in the ward. After Family Home Evening me and a few of my room mates went over to our FHE brothers apartment and played Assassins Creed and Halo Reach. I am good at being an assassin but that's about it :D Jordan and Patrick are good teachers though. Hopefully I will have another chance to get better!

The link today is for one of my favorite Backstreet Boys songs. I used to love them so so much and at one point had all of their songs memorized (middle school time). So here is a song that reminds me of a certain girls camp and just brings me overall good memories. Enjoy!!

I should be asleep

Mr. Holland's Opus

I really need to be sleeping because I have school in 5.5 hours but I have Mr. Hollands Opus and CAN'T STOP WATCHING IT!! I love this movie like crazy. It makes me so happy about life and about music. It is the movie where I feel basically every emotion and still come out very happy! It is just amazing! This song makes me cry every single time but it makes me so happy. It makes me remember and think about my older brother and my younger brothers who I can no longer protect from the world anymore. I am grateful for John Lennon writing it but when he sings it, he doesn't evoke the same emotions in me that Glenn Holland does.

Here is the clip from YouTube but I just suggest watching the whole movie because there is no comparison. It is one of my favorite movies of all time.

Weekends Are The Best!!

So this weekend I had the opportunity to go to Provo and visit some really good friends. It is those friends that always seem to make my life easier and help me through all of my difficult times. This weekend was no exception. I had such a great time messing around, trying to go to the theater, watching Megamind, eating Taco Bell, raiding all the Red Boxes, and drinking slushies. My friends are awesome :D So, moral of the story is, I am so grateful for the friendships I have made and continue to make in Provo!!

My musical inspiration for the weekend is Radiohead, their new album is called The King Of Limbs and it is AWESOME! I think my favorite song would have to be Lotus Flower. The music video for it was released February 18th and it is all black and white with the lead singer Thom Yorke dancin like a crazy! I love it so so much :D That's it for today. Hope everyone had a good weekend!!

Korea Anyone?

I woke up this morning feeling sick so after my 7:45 class I came home and slept until 2 pm. Needless to say, I feel a lot better. I am still not doing great but improvement is improvement! My muse for today comes from a different continent. One of my room mates is very into Korean music and just Korean things in general. I really appreciate this because she is introducing me to many new types of music and people. I am really discovering my love for it all. Koreans are very talented and this music from this band makes me very happy. This band is called Big Bang and their music is phenomenal! This song is called Lollipop and it is a very happy song that should lift your spirits!

Music In My Life!

My most recent desire to blog comes from music. Each time I have a new epiphany about music or about about a certain artist or song, I will be sharing those thought on this blog. Today's winner is Muse for never failing to make my life complete.

Life As We Know It

I was just looking through some old photos and found this one from last semester. It is in a moment like this where I feel genuinely happy. I love having friends who feel like family.
